# Health calculators

Explore BMI, BMR, calorie and body measurement calculators. Compare the purpose, inputs and limitations of each health estimate.

## Body measurements

BMI relates weight to height, while circumference-based tools estimate other measures. Read the population and measurement assumptions on each page.
WHO, Asia-Pacific, Japan, China, Korean standards

## Energy estimates

Distinguish a resting energy estimate from a daily estimate that includes activity. Formula-based outputs are starting estimates, not personal prescriptions.
BMR & TDEE — Mifflin-St Jeor, Schofield (NHS), Harris-Benedict

## Units and context

Use consistent height and weight units. Localized BMI pages explain which reference categories are being displayed.
kg, lbs, stone (UK), oz, tonnes, troy oz, carats — with UK stone explained

## BMI is a screening measure

BMI is weight in kilograms divided by squared height in metres. It does not directly measure body fat or diagnose disease. The CDC’s adult calculator is for adults aged 20 and older; child and teen assessment requires age- and sex-specific interpretation.

## Use the right tool for the person

A general adult formula may not suit a child, pregnancy, an athlete or a person with a medical condition. Read the limitations on the individual tool and discuss health concerns or major diet changes with an appropriately qualified clinician.

## Sources & Methodology

This topic page helps you choose a tool. Read the individual calculator’s assumptions, source dates and limitations before relying on its estimate.
